My Background & Launching Artglober

Here I go, world! I feel very fortunate to be starting my own website, and opening my online gallery.

A little about my background

I loved drawing as a kid, and was fortunate to grow up in an art-inspired home. My great grandfather was a woodworking craftsman, creating furniture that has been passed down through generations. His genes must have made it to my father as well. He was very artistic and in addition to running a small gallery and picture framing studio with my mom, he drew, painted, and carved wood sculptures.

My initial interests were in business. I earned an MBA and ran my own consulting practice for several years, but I always envisioned painting at some point in my life.

It definitely took a while! After retiring from my practice in 2020, I took the big leap and returned to college to study drawing and painting full-time.

Going back to college

I had been taking night school art workshops at my local recreation center as well as at art supply stores since 2015, but going back to college was daunting. Would I fail? Would I be the worst artist in the class? These were the fears that echoed inside my head.

Ultimately, I am so very glad I took the leap!

I loved college and learning about art in a way I never had before. Just understanding the fundamentals of design was a life-skill I couldn’t believe I had lived without! After 4 semesters, I began practicing on my own, and developing my style and skills. It’s an ongoing process, which is part of what I love about painting: there is always more to learn.

Why Artglober?

There’s so much talk these days about artist’s needing a niche. I didn’t want to be cornered into one subject, and choosing the idea of art based on world travels was very inviting! This concept gives me the freedom to paint both still life and landscapes, and even people: a small flower pot on an Italian windowsill, a Greek sea view, or even people lounging on the beach with colorful umbrellas. These will all be subjects of my paintings. I hope you find that the common theme is my joyful style, with bold, saturated colors.

Art Mediums

I anticipate that all of my collections will be in acrylic paint, and at this point I prefer the Golden brand. While I love the texture and fluidity of oils, one can paint so much faster with acrylics; there’s no waiting time for drying and curing. The paint mediums today also make it so much easier to make an acrylic painting look like an oil painting. I feel so lucky to live in a time with so many paint choices!

What’s Next?

In 2026 I plan to paint, launch small landscape collections of different travel locations, and write engaging blog stories about these experiences. I have also started to apply for galleries and exhibitions, and am happy to report I’ve secured my first small exhibit for 2027—more to follow on that in a future blog post.

I hope you’ll follow along. I invite your feedback, discussion and ideas!

Kind regards,

Artglober
